Many years ago Blizzard was developing an ambitious shooter based on the StarCraft universe. The project was in production for a long time, but it was eventually shut down.

At the beginning of September 2024 there were rumours that Blizzard was developing an RPG-shooter and there were speculations that the American company was fulfilling the wish of Xbox head Phil Spencer
and reviving the StarCraft franchise, but not in a strategy format, but as a shooter.

And now there is another reason to think so.

Here's What We Know

Blizzard Entertainment's website has a job opening for the position of Deputy Design Director of Innovation for the unannounced open-world shooter.

Of course, the studio doesn't mention anywhere that this game belongs to StarCraft series, but Jason Schreier in his new book Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment mentioned that the company hasn't given up the old idea and will still revive the cult series and prepare a shooter based on StarCraft universe.

Notably, the team of game designers is led by Dan Hay, who managed the development of an ambitious survival simulator from Blizzard until January 2024, but it was cancelled. Dan Hay is an experienced developer who spent 10 years at Ubisoft working on the Far Cry series of games, starting with the ultra-successful third instalment and up to and including the sixth.
