From Max Payne and Alan Wake to Control and Quantum Break, Finnish studio Remedy Entertainment's games always have a recognisable style, a unique atmosphere and a compelling story. All of this is made possible in large part thanks to screenwriter and creative director Sam Lake.

Many gamers respect and admire Remedy's works and now Sam Lake's contribution to the game industry will be appreciated by professional critics.

Here's What We Know

The New York Video Game Critics Circle (NYVGCC), a group of 40 of the top game critics, writers, journalists and bloggers in the US, has announced that Sam Lake will receive the Andrew Yoon Legend Award at the New York Game Awards on 21 January 2025.

This award recognises outstanding contributions to video games as a contemporary art form.

Here's how Harold Goldberg - president and co-founder of the New York Video Game Critics Circle - commented on the award presentation to the Remedy executive:

Eulogising someone of Sam Lake's calibre at the fourteenth annual New York Game Awards is an honour. You instantly recognise a Remedy game as soon as you see it, thanks in large part to Sam Lake's influence on the worlds he creates. We are delighted that he will join the list of esteemed professionals who have previously been recognised with a Legend Award.

Previous Legend Award honours include Neil Druckmann, Todd Howard, Jade Raymond, Hideo Kojima, Tim Schafer and Phil Spencer.
