Microsoft is working with NASA to develop Earth Copilot, a chatbot that will help users learn information about the planet
Microsoft is working with NASA to develop a chatbot that will help users find out information about the planet without having to delve into specialised databases.
Here's What We Know
Microsoft will release the Earth Copilot chatbot, which will be trained on data from NASA's repository. AI will be integrated there, which will eventually allow it to answer various Earth-related questions from users. For example, it will explain the impact of Hurricane Ian on Sanibel Island or how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected air quality in the US. Perhaps it will tell you about magnetic storms or approaching asteroids, abnormal weather events or provide interesting facts about the Earth.
The main goal of the Earth Copilot launch will be to simplify access to scientific data so that everyone can read it without having a specialised knowledge.
Here's a comment from Microsoft's Vice President of Health and Public Sector, Tyler Bryson:
For many, finding and researching information requires navigating technical interfaces, understanding different data formats and mastering the intricacies of geospatial analysis - specialised skills that very few users possess. AI can help with this process.
So far, Earth Copilot is only being tested by NASA specialists and scientists. It's unknown when it will become generally available, but there's no doubt that such an idea will find widespread use among inquisitive users.
