Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that more than 40 foreign defence companies are currently operating in Ukraine, and there are more than 600 domestic companies.

Here's What We Know

Defence companies have provided a total of about 300,000 jobs in Ukraine, which indicates that the industry has been revitalised during Russia's full-scale invasion.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stressed the importance of joint production with partners such as the UK and the US.

"If together with Britain or America we are able to produce thousands of missiles a year, then we need this partner even in the state part of the defence industry," he explained.

Since the beginning of the war, Ukraine has been actively expanding its own arms production, including through joint projects with foreign companies.

In December last year, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine wanted to become less dependent on arms supplies from partners and wanted to cooperate with states and companies in production. After a defence conference in the US, Kyiv announced agreements with two US companies to jointly produce 155mm ammunition.

In July of this year, the German concern Rheinmetall received an order from the Ukrainian government to build an ammunition plant. The plant will be fully equipped and ready for operation within a few years.

Production is expected to start within 24 months after the start of construction. The plant will be operated jointly by Rheinmetall and its Ukrainian partner.

In addition, Turkish aircraft manufacturer Baykar will complete the construction of a plant in Ukraine by August 2025. The company will invest $100 million in three projects in the country, including the production of drones.
