Denmark allocates EUR 130 million to the Ukrainian defence industry

During a joint briefing with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen said that the country had allocated €130 million for the development of the defence industry.

Mette Frederiksen stressed the importance of the Ukrainian experience for Europe. According to her, European countries should learn from Ukraine's example.

"It may seem a bit strange that we are standing here and praising our investments, so let me make it clear that we can only have peace in Europe if we can defend ourselves," Frederiksen said.

President Zelenskyy added that thanks to the Danish model, the Ukrainian defence industry has already attracted more than $1 billion from partner countries, the latest of which is Norway.

He also stressed the need to open up the Ukrainian defence industry to full cooperation with international partners.

Last week, Ukraine and Denmark signed agreements worth $629 million for procurement for the Defence Forces. These funds will be used to purchase long-range drones, anti-tank missile systems, missiles, and Ukrainian self-propelled artillery systems by the end of 2024.

The projects are funded by the governments of Sweden and Denmark and the interest on frozen Russian assets. In particular, Denmark has allocated $185 million, while the remaining $414 million came from interest on frozen Russian assets managed by Denmark on behalf of the EU.
