Bugatti is not stopping there. After setting the speed record for roofless cars with the Mistral (453 km/h), the company's CEO Mate Rimac has announced a new ambitious goal of breaking the 500 km/h (310 mph) barrier.

According to Top Gear, Rimac was in active discussion with Michelin engineers during Mistral testing on the track in Papenburg, Germany. The topic of discussion was tyres capable of withstanding extreme loads at speeds in excess of 500 km/h.

Here's What We Know

The new record is planned to be set with the help of 1800 hp hypercar Bugatti Tourbillon, equipped with a hybrid system with a W16 engine.

However, after Bugatti left the Volkswagen Group, the company lost access to the Ehra-Lessien track, where records were previously set with the Veyron and Chiron. Among the possible locations for the record run are considered Papenburg, the runway of the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida or even a temporary closure of a public road, as Koenigsegg did.
