Large German companies are advised to prepare for war
The Bundeswehr has started recommending that Germany's largest companies prepare for a possible war with Russia.
Here's What We Know
The Bundeswehr has begun preparing German businesses for a possible war with Russia by organising awareness-raising events. According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the government has developed a secret "German Operational Plan" in case of military invasion, which covers infrastructure facilities that need special protection and detailed defence actions.
In addition, the document envisages a scenario of a direct clash between Russia and NATO in Eastern Europe, in which Germany would become a key transport hub for the transfer of troops, equipment, food and medicine.
The first event of this format was held at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Head of the Regional Command, Lieutenant Colonel Jörn Plischke, made recommendations for businesses, including training additional truck drivers, providing autonomous energy sources, and taking into account potential risks such as cyber attacks or sabotage.
Plischke highlighted the problems in Germany with the production of military equipment and ammunition, and noted that Russia is already conducting reconnaissance, sabotage and cyberattacks in preparation for a possible conflict.
The mayor of Hamburg announced the creation of a third civil defence company of volunteers to perform security tasks. The city's Senate has also created more than 40 new jobs to strengthen crisis management.
Similar measures are being taken across Germany. The Bundeswehr said that the commands of all federal states have been instructed to organise similar training.
