Ukrainian soldiers in Kursk region take 26 Russians prisoner in just one battle
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that soldiers of the 80th separate airborne assault Galician brigade captured 26 Russians in one battle in Kursk region.
Here's What We Know
The Ukrainian military captured former Russian prisoners from the Storm Z unit after an unsuccessful assault on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In an interview published on the Galician Brigade's Telegram channel, the prisoners spoke about deception during the signing of contracts, insufficient training and harsh conditions of service.
One of the prisoners noted that after signing the contract, their training course lasted only 9 days. During this time, they were taught only basic military skills: assault rifle shooting and grenade throwing.
Before deployment, they were promised artillery and technical cover, which they never received. Soldiers from Storm Z were effectively thrown into combat without proper support.
According to the prisoners, their unit lost almost 70 per cent of its personnel in just four days. Out of more than a hundred infantrymen, about thirty remained, the rest were killed or wounded. All this time, they were hiding in the forest from Ukrainian drones and weapons.
The prisoners claim that the command did not allow them to retreat from their positions, threatening to shoot if they tried to leave. They were ordered not to take Ukrainians prisoner, arguing that there were only foreign mercenaries among the Ukrainian military. Soldiers were advised to blow themselves up with a grenade if captured.
The prisoners also stated that they did not receive the promised monetary payments from the Russian authorities, which only worsened their attitude towards the command.
This situation once again demonstrates the ways in which Storm Z units, which consist of former prisoners, are used as 'cannon fodder' and the indifference of the Russian command to its soldiers.
