German company Handtmann Systemtechnik has introduced a new modular LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) battery that provides a capacity of up to 1.3 MWh. As the manufacturer notes, the system is targeted at heavy equipment, marine vessels and stationary energy storage.

Features:

  • Modularity: each module has a capacity of 13 kWh, and the complete system can accommodate up to 56 battery packs
  • Flexible configuration: Customised configurations with up to 16 main units and maximum capacity can be realised.
  • Resistant to extreme conditions: the system has been tested for resistance to vibration, temperature fluctuations and cycle times
  • Integrated safety: the monitoring system at cell, module and circuit level is provided by a separate "safety unit".
  • The minimum configuration consists of one main unit and two battery modules. The system can be easily adapted to customer requirements in terms of size and power consumption

According to Markus Michelberger, Handtmann's Business Development Manager, the main challenge was to ensure easy customisation and integration of the different configurations.

Who is behind the development?

Handtmann Systemtechnik, a division founded in 2003, is part of the Handtmann Group and specialises in the development of components for the automotive industry. In addition to battery systems, the company also produces enclosures for high-voltage storage systems and components for electric vehicles.
