The paid Acceleration Boost option for nearly $2,000 accelerates the Tesla Model 3 Long Range by 0.6 seconds
Tesla has decided to bring back a familiar option for the updated version of the Model 3 sedan without too much hype. In some countries, owners of the electric car are offered the so-called Acceleration Boost - a digital upgrade that unlocks the additional potential of electric motors. The main result is that the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is reduced from 4.4 to 3.8 seconds. But this pleasure is not free.
Here's What We Know
In Australia, for Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD 2024 model year Tesla Model 3 owners, the service costs AU$3,000 (about US$1,900). In China, the cost is similar - about 14,100 yuan (also about US$1,900). However, there is one condition: the car must have software version 2024.20 or newer.
This is not Tesla's first such experiment. The Acceleration Boost option was popular with Model 3 owners in the old design, as it allowed them to experience the dynamics of the flagship Performance versions without the stiff suspension and sports tyres.
Why it's a bargain.
The updated Tesla Model 3 Performance accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds, but it also costs significantly more, starting at A$87,000 (~$57,000) in Australia. In comparison, the Model 3 Long Range AWD with the Acceleration Boost option will cost AUD 73,000 (~US$48,000), although the 0-100 km/h acceleration time will differ by only 0.7 seconds.
However, the Long Range AWD attracts not only the price. The claimed range in the WLTP cycle is 629 kilometres, while the Performance version has only 528 kilometres to spare.
This update is likely to become available in Europe, Canada and the US in the next few days.
