It's official: Cadillac will become the 11th Formula One team from 2026

Formula 1 has officially agreed to host a new General Motors (GM) team to start under the Cadillac brand in 2026. The American carmaker will become the 11th team on the starting grid, initially as a customer team but with ambitions to create its own engine by the end of the decade.

The agreement comes 10 months after Cadillac's bid to join alongside Andretti Global passed the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) scrutiny but was rejected by F1's governing body. The reason for the rejection was then rumoured to be due to tensions between the now former Andretti Global CEO Michael Andretti and F1 management. In the new bid, the Andretti brand was removed, which helped GM get the approval.

Cadillac will now partner with TWG Global, which runs Andretti Global, Wayne Taylor Racing and Spire Motorsports. The new team will utilise Andretti Global's resources in the US and a base in Silverstone, England. Mario Andretti, the last American to win a Formula One championship, will be a member of the new team's board of directors.
