Samsung Display prepares to launch the world's first OLED panel for gaming monitors with a refresh rate of 500 Hz
South Korean media outlet ETNews, citing "industry sources , " has reported Samsung Display's plans to create and launch the world's first 27-inch QHD OLED panel with a refresh rate of 500 Hz.
The panel will be based on QD-OLED technology, which uses quantum dots to enhance image brightness. It is expected that this panel will be used primarily in monitors for gamers and professionals who need the highest response speed. This is currently the highest refresh rate for OLED screens, surpassing the 480Hz presented by LG Display just a few months ago. Samsung Display's design also retains a high QHD resolution (2560x1440), which is currently the exception for such fast screens. So far, panel developers have not been able to achieve a refresh rate of 500Hz on screens with a resolution higher than FullHD (1920x1080).
The company is finalising the panel and plans to launch it in the first half of next year. It is known that Samsung Display is already in talks with leading monitor manufacturers to integrate these displays into their products. In this case, the first monitors with this OLED panel will go on sale in the first half of 2025.
Demand for OLED technology is growing, especially among gamers, due to advantages such as instant response time, rich colours and improved image quality. According to data from analyst firm Omdia, cited by ETNews, the monitor market is growing at 1% per year, while the market for monitors with OLED panels is set to show explosive growth of 34% annually through 2028, gradually displacing LCD panels.
