France is worried that Trump may hold peace talks on Ukraine while ignoring the interests of Ukraine and Europe itself
France fears that after Trump comes to power, he will be able to negotiate peace with Russia without taking into account the interests of Ukraine and Europe.
Here's What We Know
"Trump may try to make an easy deal, combining carrots for Russia and sticks for Ukraine: lifting sanctions on Russia and stopping arms supplies to Ukraine. And if Ukraine falls, he will simply blame Biden for everything," the report said.
Advisers to French President Emmanuel Macron are concerned that diplomacy on this issue will turn into a "US-Russian" model, and the interests of Ukraine and Europe will be ignored.
"I don't think we should fight Trump in the sense that we want peace in Ukraine," an Eastern European diplomat tells the publication.
It doesn't have to be just Russia's apologists calling for an end to the war, he argues. But the goal, he said, should be a lasting peace, not a "half-baked" one. According to the diplomat, Trump is still "playing with ideas, and he is looking for opinions from Europeans".
