Tesla has added a feature long awaited by car owners living in colder climates. Charging port heating can now be switched on separately, without having to warm up the whole car. This is made possible by a software update that the Model Y and Model X are already starting to receive.

Here's What We Know

Starting in 2020, Tesla began equipping its cars with a charging port heating system to avoid ice build-up. Previously, this feature was only activated in conjunction with heated mirrors and windows or interior heating. Now, according to Not A Tesla App, with the software update to version 2024.44.3.1, there is a new option to switch on the charging port heating separately.

The new feature has already been confirmed for the Model Y and Model X. Gradually will become available for other cars of the company. To activate it, you need to go to the Controls → Service menu and find the item Charge Port Heater.

This innovation is especially relevant for Tesla owners in cold regions. Now they can defrost the charging port without spending energy on heating other elements. While the feature still automatically activates during general heating or preparing the battery pack for charging, the new mode offers greater convenience and energy efficiency.
