The Last of Us star Troy Baker, who played the lead role in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, initially refused to do it, and Todd Howard didn't want to see him in his game
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle starred Troy Baker, who is best known for his role as Joel in The Last of Us. However, in the beginning, it seemed that the role was supposed to go to someone else.
Here's What We Know
At first, Troy refused the role of Indiana Jones because it scared him and he had doubts that he could handle it.
Luckily, voice director Tom Keegan persuaded Baker to try out for the role.
We looked at over 1,000 candidates for the role, so not only was I competing with all these really talented people, but I was also competing with myself. And the beauty of it is that it's not about "can you impress?", it's about "can you help us feel like this is the real Indiana Jones?". Because that's what it's all about: do we feel like this is the real Indiana Jones?
Over time, the actor's emotions changed from "I hope I get this job" to "I really, really want it".
What's also interesting about this story is that one of the key developers was not happy with Baker's candidacy - Todd Howard, the chief producer of The Great Circle and head of Bethesda Game Studios.
When he was told Troy's name, Todd rolled his eyes and said: "No, I'm not putting Troy Baker in my game." But the producer's mind changed.
When We Can Expect It
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is out on 9 December on Xbox Series X/S, Game Pass and PC, and for PS5 next spring.
