Nostalgia for the original Xbox: 8BitDo has unveiled a gaming keyboard and mouse in the style of Microsoft's first console
8BitDo has unveiled a gaming mechanical keyboard and mouse, which will surely appeal to fans of the Xbox brand, as they are made in the style of the first console from Microsoft.
Here's What We Know
The first RGB backlit keyboard from 8BitDo is offered to customers. Its keys are transparent and in the green colour typical of all Xbox products, while the arrow keys are in the colours of the controller buttons.
The keyboard, which is dubbed the 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard - Xbox Edition, and the mouse are officially licensed by Microsoft.
The TKL keyboard has 87 keys and uses Kailh Jellyfish X switches. The keyboard has a separate control panel for volume changes and customisable buttons. A dedicated Xbox key activates the Windows Game Bar gaming hub.
The keyboard supports 8BitDo Ultimate Software for backlight customisation and button programming. It has a 4,000 mAh battery that gives the device more than 200 hours of battery life without charging.
The keyboard from 8BitDo supports both wired and wireless connectivity and is compatible with devices running Windows 10 and above and Android 9 and above.
The Xbox Edition is sold complete with "super buttons" that users can programme to activate macros and other functions.
The 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse - Xbox Edition is designed in the same style as the keyboard and features four programmable side buttons that also reference the controller from the American corporation. Included with the mouse is a charging station that can also store the adapter.
The Retro R8 Mouse features a PAW 3395 sensor that supports DPIs ranging from 50 to 26,000 with polling rates ranging from 125Hz to 8,000Hz. Its buttons can withstand more than 100 million clicks. The mouse has a 450 mAh battery that will last for 100 hours of use via Bluetooth and 26 to 105 hours via the 2.4 GHz adapter.
Both devices are already available for pre-order, with the keyboard costing $119 and the mouse costing $59. The gadgets will begin shipping on 16 January 2025.
