Xiaomi's upcoming 3nm chipset will use MediaTek's yet-to-be-announced 5G modem
Next year, Xiaomi could make history by releasing its own chip made using the 3nm process. While it's not yet known which manufacturing partner the Chinese company is working with, one of the main challenges will be choosing a 5G modem for this chip.
Here's What We Know
According to the latest information published on Weibo, Xiaomi is planning to use the MediaTek T90 5G modem. This modem has not been officially unveiled yet, indicating its possible development status. Xiaomi is looking to boost the wireless capabilities of its chip and compete with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X80 5G modem.
MediaTek has already made significant strides with the Dimensity 9400, the company's first chip mass-produced using TSMC's second-generation 3nm process. It's possible that MediaTek will use TSMC's advanced technology to supply Xiaomi's T90 modems, but those details have yet to be confirmed. As a result, it's possible that Xiaomi may well be able to reduce its dependence on Qualcomm and other manufacturers while avoiding US sanctions.
