The new Rolls-Royce Cameo was cheaper than a Mazda Miata, except it's not really a car

The open-top luxury car segment is now virtually extinct, leaving only the memories of the Bentley Azure, Rolls-Royce Dawn and Phantom Drophead Coupé. Rolls-Royce has decided to pay homage to such cars with a miniature sculpture called the Cameo.

Here's What We Know

The catch is that the Cameo has to be assembled in-house. It's kind of like an expensive construction kit for adults. The body is assembled from two sections - one of solid oak and the other of polished aluminium. The resulting structure is attached to the aluminium chassis, mimicking a fundamental stage in the assembly process at the Rolls-Royce factory known as the 'wedding'. The interior is then fitted. These parts are printed on a 3D printer and finished in the same leather used in full-size Rolls-Royce cars.

Other authentic details include self-levelling hubcaps that allow the "RR" monogram to stay upright as the wheels rotate. There's even a miniature driver figurine with an aluminium 'body' and leather cap.

How much does it cost?

In its press release, Rolls-Royce diplomatically did not mention the price of the Cameo. However, one dealer has already listed the Cameo on its online shop for $5,500.
