Chinese brand Avatr has unveiled an updated version of the Avatr 11 crossover. The design of the model has not changed much, but the more interesting development is the appearance of the EREV (Electric Range Extended Vehicle) version, which boasts electric vehicle behaviour and range like a modern diesel car with a capacious tank.

Here's What We Know

The Avatr brand was founded in 2018 through a joint effort between Changan and Nio. Later, Nio's stake in this joint venture was bought out by battery maker CATL, while Huawei got involved in the development of the electric cars. The Avatr 11 is the brand's first production model. It entered the Chinese market in August 2022 and since then sales have totalled more than 30,000 units.

The Avatr 11 measures 4,895 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,975 mm. In comparison, the European Audi Q6 e-tron is 4,771 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,899 mm.

The new EREV version gets a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. It acts as a generator, supplying power to the 39 kWh CATL LFP battery pack. A single electric motor on the rear axle develops 231 kW (310 hp) of power. In purely electric mode, the Avatr 11 EREV can travel up to 225 kilometres on a single charge in the Chinese CLTC cycle. The combined driving range of the Avatr 11 EREV reaches 1,065 kilometres.

As for the all-electric Avatr 11, it has a single 116 kWh CATL NMC battery and a range of 760-815 kilometres depending on the modification. The base rear-wheel drive version has a single 237 kW (318 hp) motor and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. The car in the top version has a dual-motor system and all-wheel drive with a total power output of 402 kW (539 hp). The all-wheel drive Avatr 11 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

How much does it cost?

The Avatr 11 in the new EREV version is priced from 279,900 yuan ($38,400). The all-electric Avatr 11 EV Ultra RWD is from 339,900 yuan (US$46,600), while the Avatr 11 EV Ultra 4WD is from 369,900 yuan (US$50,750).
