The updated BMW iX promises a new 'front end', more comfortable seats and a longer range
BMW has decided to put the automotive paparazzi out of work by allowing journalists to take an introductory test drive of the updated iX electric crossover during an international media event in South Carolina. The automaker doesn't hide the fact that the changes to the 2026 model aren't drastic, but there are still interesting details.
What's changed.
At the front, there is a new grille with sharp lines that are reminiscent of the design of the latest BMW X3. The shape of headlights has changed a little, the front bumper looks more aggressive with vertical air intakes. The rest of the body, judging by the photos of the prototype, remained almost unchanged, although under the camouflage may hide additional innovations.
In the interior also expect no revolution, but spy photos earlier hinted at some new elements. In particular, the new seats, which, according to BMW Blog journalists, are much more comfortable than the previous ones.
The biggest changes are technical. Upgraded electric motors with new bearings, new inverters and special tyres with reduced rolling resistance work to reduce energy consumption. As a result, BMW promises a 10 per cent gain over the current model.
Battery upgrades are also expected, although exact details are not yet available. But when you consider the claimed efficiency, it could significantly increase the range. To give you an example, the 2025 iX xDrive50 has a range of 486 to 497 kilometres (302 and 309 miles, respectively) on the EPA cycle, while the iX M60 has around 457 to 459 kilometres (284 and 285 miles). The updated BMW iX is likely to have noticeably higher performance.
