8 December marks four years since the announcement of AirPods Max, Apple's first full-size headphones.

Here's What We Know

Talks about the new headphones, originally known as "AirPods Studio", intensified in late 2020. They were unexpectedly unveiled on 8 December via a press release and went on sale the same day. The first orders were delivered to customers on 15 December.

AirPods Max combine the popular features of AirPods: H1 chip, active noise cancellation, Transparency mode, automatic switching, and surround sound with dynamic head tracking. The headphones are equipped with a flexible headband, interchangeable magnetic ear cushions, a digital volume wheel, and a special power case.

Demand for the new AirPods Max was high immediately, but their price of $549 drew criticism due to the high cost compared to competitors. In 2024, Apple updated the colour scheme and replaced the Lightning connector with USB-C. The model is still relevant, and there are no rumours about the second generation yet.
