Bloomberg: next Mac model could get mobile internet support for the first time, thanks to Apple's 5G chip
For the last few years, Apple has been developing its own 5G modem, which, as the company hopes, will allow it to impose serious competition to Qualcomm in this segment.
Obviously, these chips will be used in iPads and iPhones, but there is information that the American giant will build them into its laptops as well.
Here's What We Know
As reported by authoritative insider and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman Apple for the first time is considering the possibility of installing mobile communications in the Mac line.
As early as 2025, the first devices with a 5G chip from Apple will be released, they will be the new iPhone SE, iPad and iPhone 17 Air. The company will test the modem to later implement it in flagship devices, including Macs.
Laptops will thus have support for 5G connectivity, allowing them to connect to the internet for the first time without Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot.
Apple's first 5G modem will reportedly offer speeds of up to 6GHz, and its next version will have support for mmWave technology, which will significantly speed up the internet.
Gurman believes that Apple will eventually abandon Qualcomm chips altogether in favour of its own modems.
