EU demands more information from Google and Meta on advertising to minors
The European Union is demanding more information from Google and Meta regarding a secret advertising campaign targeting minors.
Here's What We Know
According to the Financial Times, the EU is investigating the details of the agreement between the companies, including internal chats, presentations, and emails related to YouTube advertising. In October, regulators already requested this information, and now they are demanding additional data.
In August, an investigation revealed that Google employees helped Meta circumvent the company's rules to show ads to minors. In particular, they directed Instagram ads to YouTube for a group that included teenagers.
Despite the fact that Google prohibits advertising to minors, the company claims its innocence and emphasises the existence of protection mechanisms for teenagers. It also said that it has conducted additional training for its advertising department staff.
