At The Game Awards 2024, Capcom announced a sequel to another forgotten series in addition to the sequel to the Okami adventure game.

Here's What We Know

The Japanese developer presented the debut trailer of Onimusha: Way of the Sword - the first new game in the series since the release of Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams on PlayStation 2 in 2006.

The video shows several spectacular fights of the protagonist with demons from Japanese mythology.

The game's description reads:

Bloody sword battles are back. This time you will be able to explore the historical capital of Edo-era Japan - Kyoto, which is shrouded in sinister clouds of Evil. Each stage of the game will be filled with mystery, danger and intrigue.

You will have to battle monsters from the underworld known as Genma.

This dark fantasy tells the story of a samurai wielding the Glove of Oni, a mystical artefact that gives its owner the power to kill Genma. The samurai seeks a reason to fight in brutal, blood-soaked brawls. What fate awaits him at the end of his journey?

The plot of the Onimusha series of games is based on real historical events and personalities that are seamlessly blended into a dark fantasy universe. The characters' fates and the trials they go through create a unique and fascinating story that has garnered widespread acclaim.

Capcom states that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will offer a new take on the franchise and bring it closer to modern standards.

When We Can Expect It

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is expected to release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
