At TGA 2024 FromSoftware made an unexpected announcement - the company presented a co-operative spin-off Elden Ring with the subtitle Nightreign.
The trailer revealed only the main features of the novelty and left a number of questions and space for speculations, but after a while PC Gamer editor-in-chief Wes Fenlon revealed important information about the game.
Here's What We Know
Fenlon said that last week he visited FromSoftware office, where developers told him important details about Elden Ring: Nightreign.
Here are the main talking points:
- FromSoftware head and Elden Ring game director Hidetaka Miyazaki
was only involved in the very early stages of development; - Junya Ishigami, who previously worked on Elden Ring, Bloodborne and the Dark Souls series, is serving as Nightreign's game director;
- writer George R. R. Martin, who created the backstory for the world of Elden Ring, was not involved in the game's story;
- Nightreign's story will be separate and distinct, and will unfold in parallel to Elden Ring;
- the game can be played in three-player or single-player mode, two-player mode is not available. Depending on the number of players, the strength of the enemies will also change;
- Nightreign concept is based on the principles of the roguelike genre, so each playthrough should be unique, and the world of the game will change;
- eight character classes will appear in the game, with one of them having gameplay mechanics related to the use of Ashes from the Elden Ring;
- players will receive Relics as they progress through the game, which can be used to upgrade their heroes for future battles;
- the phases of each match are divided into "three days", and "each day" takes 10-15 minutes to complete. Players must survive these "three days" and defeat two bosses in order to fight the final boss, who will be chosen before the game starts;
- there will be eight types of final bosses in the game and among them will be other creatures from FromSoftware games. Enemies are only revived after completing one session;
- the world map changes dynamically, with volcanoes, meteor showers, castles, camps and other objects appearing on it;
- each of the eight characters has their own story, which will be revealed during the passage, and this time not only through text entries;
- Elden Ring: Nightreign is not a service game, if you buy it, players will get all the content at once without any additional purchases;
- the authors do not plan to create PvP-modes;
- there will be no crossplay in the game, but users of different generations of the same console will be able to play together.
When We Can Expect It
Elden Ring: Nightreign will be released in 2025 on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
The first technical testing will take place in February.
