Mercedes-AMG has announced the start of testing on circuit and public roads of the recently announced electric SUV built on the AMG.EA platform. The first stage will be winter testing in northern Sweden.

Here's What We Know

The as yet unnamed model is the second on the AMG.EA platform, following the AMG GT four-door coupé announced earlier this year. The platform name is an acronym for AMG Electric Architecture.

Mercedes-AMG published the first photo of a heavily camouflaged prototype as part of that announcement. At the same time, official technical information about the electric SUV is still scarce. In a press release, the company only mentioned new electric motors and a high-performance battery.

Michael Schiebe, chairman of the Mercedes-AMG board of management, however, emphasised during the first announcement in November that the motto of the AMG.EA platform is "AMG First, EV Second". In other words, the focus is on performance and driving characteristics. The importance of the Vision EQXX software platform was also emphasised with its high performance.

The same hardware will debut on the four-door GT AMG, which is expected to be launched in 2025 as a 2026 model. As the unnamed AMG EV SUV has already entered winter testing in Sweden, it is on a similar development cycle and should arrive shortly after the sedan.
