Autoblog: The Lucid Air Sapphire sedan accelerates so fast it hurts.

The Lucid Air Sapphire is an electric sedan that accelerates so fast it feels like a stab in the back. According to AutoBlog reporter Dave McQuilling, if you get a chance to test the Launch Control feature in the Lucid Air Sapphire, it's worth it. This system maximises the car's acceleration, so all you have to do is hang on to the steering wheel and hope the road ahead is straight enough.
And yes, it's a bit of a pain. McQuilling says the sensation isn't like the classic "pressure in the back of the seat" when accelerating. In the case of the Lucid Air Sapphire, you literally "fly" into the seat as the car hits you in the back with its mass.
Why does this happen?
The Lucid Air Sapphire's three electric motors together produce 1,234 horsepower and 1,430 lb-ft of torque (approximately 1,940 Nm). This is the main "culprit" of such aggressive dynamics. According to the manufacturer, acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) takes just 1.89 seconds, and top speed is limited at 205 mph (330 km/h). On its website, Lucid even specifically specifies that the speed limits should only be reached on a closed circuit by competent and experienced drivers.
Sophisticated software for Launch Control regulates exactly where the power goes and how it is distributed. In addition, the system manages the temperature of the battery so that it is perfectly warmed for maximum performance, but at the same time does not overheat.
Price of the issue
The Lucid Air Sapphire's capabilities are impressive, but even the most diehard drivers can experience the power of this car with a quarter of a million dollars in their bank account.
