Apple Watch now detects sleep apnoea in Brazil: new feature available to users
Apple has announced that the Apple Watch's sleep apnea detection feature is now available in Brazil after receiving a licence from the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency.
Here's What We Know
The feature, which is already available in more than 150 countries and regions, uses the Apple Watch accelerometer to track wrist movements that may indicate sleep apnoea.
The data collected helps determine whether there is a sleep disordered breathing condition. If frequent disturbances are detected within 30 days, the user will receive an alert about possible sleep apnoea. This alert is not a diagnosis, but it allows you to contact a doctor for further discussion.
The algorithm uses machine learning based on clinically validated data. In its own clinical trial, Apple found that all participants who tested positive did indeed have at least mild sleep apnoea.
