Netflix fined €4.75 million in the Netherlands for breach of user data processing

The Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) has fined Netflix €4.75 million for failing to explain how it processes user data in 2018-2020.

Here's What We Know

The investigation was launched following complaints from the Austrian NGO None of Your Business (NOYB), which accused Netflix of failing to properly inform users about the processing of their personal data.

The DPA found that the company provided unclear information about the purpose of data collection, its storage, transfer to third parties and security measures.

DPA Chairman Aleid Wolfsen said: "A company with billions of dollars in revenue has an obligation to explain its actions regarding customer data in a transparent manner."

Netflix denies the fine and claims that since 2018 it has been publishing relevant information through its support centre and acting in accordance with the regulations.
