US will not have time to use $2bn to help Ukraine before Biden's term ends
The United States is unlikely to be able to use all the funds allocated for military assistance to Ukraine before the end of Joe Biden's term. Some of the unused resources, including $5.6 billion under the PDA programme, may be inherited by the future administration of Donald Trump.
Here's What We Know
According to Ostap Yarush, Voice of America's Pentagon correspondent, the United States is facing a problem of using all the funds allocated for military assistance to Ukraine before the end of Joe Biden's presidential term.
First of all, it is about $2 billion that was found as a result of recalculations, as well as the remaining $5.6 billion under the PDA programme, which allows for the rapid transfer of weapons from the US Armed Forces to Ukraine.
According to Yarysh, the funds from this programme will partially be inherited by President-elect Donald Trump, whose position on supporting Ukraine remains uncertain. At the same time, the funds under the USAI initiative, which amount to $1.2 billion and are directed to arms manufacturers for their production, will be fully utilised.
Currently, the Biden administration and the Pentagon are trying to speed up the delivery of arms to Ukraine before Trump's inauguration. This activity is in stark contrast to the statements of Donald Trump, who in an interview with Time magazine criticised the Biden administration's decision to allow Ukraine to use US weapons to strike Russian territory.
