New York Jets owner makes personnel decisions based on Madden NFL ratings
The owner of the NFL New York Jets, Woody Johnson, has been found to have used player ratings from the Madden NFL video game to make real-life personnel decisions.
Here's What We Know
According to The Athletic, Johnson blocked a trade with the Denver Broncos that would have resulted in the signing of wide receiver Jerry Jeudy because his Madden NFL rating was too low. The deal was almost complete, but Johnson's intervention based on virtual metrics derailed it. In the end, Judy moved to the Cleveland Browns, where he has been playing well, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in his career.
This isn't the only time Johnson has relied on ratings from a video game. He also expressed his reluctance to sign free agent guard John Simpson because of his low "Awareness" score in Madden NFL.
The New York Jets continue to struggle with a long losing streak, having failed to make the playoffs for the past 14 seasons.
