Google Chrome introduces AI fraud detection to protect privacy
Google has introduced a new fraud detection feature using artificial intelligence in the latest version of Chrome Canary.
Here's What We Know
This system runs directly on your device, protecting your privacy by analysing web pages for potential threats. The on-premises approach means that your browsing data is not sent to external servers, but remains on your computer.
The new feature, called Client Side Detection Brand and Intent for Scam Detection, uses powerful language models to analyse web pages on Windows, Mac and Linux devices. It's similar to the recent Microsoft Edge update that has a "scareware blocker" feature, but Chrome will automatically enable this option when it officially launches.
This protection comes as online threats are on the rise. According to a report by Microsoft Digital Defence, more than 600 million attacks are launched daily by cybercriminals and even government organisations. Earlier this year, Chrome started warning users about suspicious downloads by displaying full-screen warnings.
In addition to security, Google is also adding other AI-powered features, including the ability to view reviews on sites such as Trustpilot. To try out the new fraud detection feature, you need to update Chrome Canary and enable the appropriate settings in chrome://flags.
Microsoft has reported that the Russian hacker group Nobelium infiltrated its corporate network and gained access to emails of company executives for almost a month. This forced Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to make security the number one priority for the company.
