Donald Trump has expressed his desire to keep TikTok in the US as he has a "warm place" in his heart for the app
President-elect Donald Trump has said he would like to keep the TikTok app in the US for a while despite a planned ban set to take effect in less than a month.
Here's What We Know
At an event in Phoenix, Arizona, Trump noted that TikTok has received a huge response with billions of views, and expressed his desire to keep the app. In April 2024, President Joe Biden signed a bill requiring TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app by 19 January next year or it will be banned.
ByteDance is challenging the bill in court, and the Supreme Court agreed to hear arguments on 10 January. Trump also met with TikTok's CEO and said he has a "warm place" in his heart for the app. Despite this, it remains unclear how Trump will be able to overturn the ban, given that he won't take office until 20 January.
