Canadian Hothead Games has a sad end of the year: the studio closed after 18 years of work

Hothead Games, a Canadian studio known for free-to-play mobile games, has announced its closure after 18 years of operation. The company's CEO Ian Wilkinson announced this on LinkedIn, noting that the studio officially ceased operations on 13 December 2024 after filing for bankruptcy.

Wilkinson said that the team hoped to sign contracts with two publishers to develop versions of the game for mobile devices and consoles. However, despite the fact that the deals were almost completed, both publishers refused to cooperate. First, the mobile publisher decided to change its strategy, and two weeks later, the other publisher also abandoned the project. "At that point, our only option was to declare bankruptcy," Wilkinson wrote.

Hothead Games was founded in 2006 by former Radical Entertainment employees and gained popularity for its mobile projects. In the mid-2010s, the studio achieved significant success, but in recent years, it has failed to adapt to new market conditions.

Wilkinson expressed hope that this is not the last time they will hear about Hothead Games. "We still believe that we are destined to work together and achieve great things," he said in the post.
