MediaTek has unveiled its new Dimensity 8400 chip, which is built on the same architecture as the flagship Dimensity 9400 chip

MediaTek has announced a new Dimensity 8400 processor, which is the first in its class with an all-big-core architecture. The same architecture is used in the new flagship Dimensity 9400 chip.

Here's What We Know

The MediaTek Dimensity 8400 includes 8 Cortex-A725 cores with a maximum clock speed of 3.25 GHz, delivering up to 41% performance boost over the previous Dimensity 8300. The Dimensity 8400 also features 44% reduced power consumption at peak load.

The Mali-G720 MC7 GPU embedded in the chipset delivers 24% more performance and 42% more power efficiency. The processor supports WQHD+ resolution screens with refresh rates up to 144Hz, LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

The integrated NPU 880 accelerates AI-related tasks and supports major language models. The Dimensity 8400 also features the Imagiq 1080 ISP, which supports sensors up to 320 MP and 4K 60 FPS video recording.

The new 5G modem offers download speeds of up to 5.17 Gbps and can easily switch between Wi-Fi and 5G networks for internet connectivity. It is rumoured that the first smartphone to get the Dimensity 8400 chip will be the REDMI Turbo 4, which could arrive next month.
