Record launch: DC's Creature Commandos animated series extended for season 2, but the first one hasn't even finished yet
James Gunn's animated series Creature Commandos has been renewed for a second season. This project was the first stage of the new DC Universe developed by Gunn and his partner Peter Safran. The series gained popularity after its premiere on 5 December 2024, receiving positive reviews from critics and viewers.
Here's What We Know
The series combines elements of black humour, drama and action, which are characteristic features of Gunn's work, known for his work on Guardians of the Galaxy.
The plot of Creature Commandos focuses on a team of superheroes consisting of unusual characters - monsters and beasts with their own unique abilities and personalities.
Amy Gravitt, Head of Comedy at HBO and Max, expressed her excitement about the series' renewal, emphasising the uniqueness of the characters: "Only James Gunn could have created this wild gang of monsters that you can relate to."
Gunn and Safran said in a joint statement: "We are thrilled to be working with Max for the new season of Creature Commandos. The platform has consistently exceeded industry expectations."
The authors also called the animated series a "record-breaking launch", but did not say which record the project broke.
So now we are waiting for season 2, but the finale of the first season will take place on 9 January 2024.
