Waze glitch: app offers unnecessarily long routes
Waze users have noticed a strange problem with the app: instead of an optimal route, the system suggests longer paths with many turns that don't save time. This glitch has been noticeable since mid-December, and appears to be becoming increasingly common.
What's the problem?
Waze has always been known for its commitment to reducing journey times, even if that means complex routes through narrow streets. Recently, however, the app has been offering illogical detours that add a few minutes to a journey without any clear benefit.
On the Waze forums, users complain that during long journeys they are diverted away from familiar routes to less convenient alternatives that end up merging with the original path.
The developers have confirmed that they are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. However, a fix isn't ready yet, and due to the festive period, you shouldn't expect a quick update.
What to do.
Check the route: before travelling, pay attention to whether it includes unnecessary turns or detours. If the route looks illogical, choose an alternative or ignore unnecessary detours. Meanwhile, some users have commented that they are temporarily switching to Google Maps to avoid confusion during long journeys, particularly at Christmas.
