Ford is recalling 12,000 F-150 Lightning trucks due to a problem that has already led to an accident
Ford has announced a recall of about 12,000 F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks from the 2023-2024 model years due to a manufacturing error with the front suspension that could cause the vehicle to lose control while driving.
What happened.
The problem stems from insufficient torque on the upper front suspension upper control arm ball nut. Ford has already recorded one accident due to this problem.
One F-150 Lightning owner reported that after 639 miles (1,028 kilometres) of driving, the vehicle began vibrating at high speed, then made an uncontrolled left turn and crashed into a barrier. Upon inspection, the dealership technician discovered a missing suspension arm ball nut. This caused the arm to detach from the steering knuckle.
Vibration, knocking or rattling while driving are alarming symptoms for the driver. In such a case, it is better not to continue driving until the problem is corrected.
As part of the recall campaign, Ford dealers will check the tightening torques of the front suspension threads on both sides. If necessary, the nuts will be replaced.
The recall code is 24S76. Ford will begin sending out notices to owners to visit a service station in February 2025.
