BYD offered free insurance on some electric cars as part of its New Year promotion

China's largest electric car manufacturer has launched a New Year promotion. Some models are now offered with free insurance.

Having sold a record 506,804 "new energy vehicles" (all-electric and hybrid cars) in November, BYD posted sales of more than 500,000 vehicles for the second month in a row. It looks like the company has no plans to slow down. On Thursday, BYD announced a new "New Year GO New Car" promotion on its Weibo page.

From 26 December 2024 to 26 January 2025, BYD is offering free insurance for select PHEVs and EVs in the Ocean and Dynasty lines. The promotion applies to several top-selling models, including the Dolphin, Seal and Sea Lion 07.

How many cars does BYD sell?

In the first 11 months of 2024, BYD sold nearly 3.76 million NEVs, including 1.56 million all-electric vehicles. The promotion comes in the final days of the competition with Tesla for the title of global leader in electric car sales in 2024. As of September, the race leader was Tesla with 1.3 million vehicles vs. 1.17 million units. BYD, but the final results will not be known until the end of the year.
