Xiaomi has announced a new communication device, the Public Network Intercom Mini radio, which will soon be available for crowdfunding in China.

Here's What We Know

This compact gadget, designed for 4G communications, allows users to communicate at a distance of up to 5000 km. The device supports the Push-to-Talk function, which allows simultaneous communication for both one person and a group of users.

The Public Network Intercom Mini has a built-in SIM card that connects to China's national 4G network, but it is worth noting that data will be free for the first year only. The device will not work without an active network connection.

Xiaomi notes that multiple devices can be easily connected to each other within range, and additional settings are available through the Xiaomi mobile app.

An important aspect is the lightness and compactness of the device: it weighs only 35 g, and the accompanying headset with built-in mount weighs 11 g. The gadget can be worn on clothes, and the headset can be worn on either ear. Thanks to its 470 mAh battery, the device can operate for up to 43 hours in standby mode or 25 hours in normal use. It can be charged via a USB-C port.

The crowdfunding campaign for Xiaomi Public Network Intercom Mini will start on 7 January 2025 on the Xiaomi Youpin platform, where support for the project will cost CNY 179 ($24).

Delivery of the gadgets will start on 15 January.

The device is expected to cost CNY 199 ($27) on the market, but it is not yet known whether it will enter the North American markets.
