NetEase Games' team-based superhero shooter Marvel Rivals is enjoying a significant success, attracting more than 20 million players in the first month after its release. This rapid growth is even more impressive given the fact that Overwatch 2, the game's main competitor, has not lost any players. Therefore, the key question now is how much Marvel Rivals has influenced the popularity of Blizzard's shooter - in fact, quite a lot.

Here's What We Know

At least on Twitch. Data from SteamCharts shows that Overwatch 2 peaked at 64,970 viewers in the last 30 days, a sharp decline from a peak of 125,279 viewers in November. It is worth noting that the Overwatch Championship Series 2024 finals took place on 24 November, which likely contributed to the increase in the number of players.

In comparison, Marvel Rivals reached a staggering peak of 275,521 viewers in the last 30 days. The gap widens even further if we analyse the last seven days: Marvel Rivals reached 140,039 peak viewers, while Overwatch 2 was 23,260 viewers behind. Given the huge number of players in Marvel Rivals, it's no surprise that content creators and streamers are flocking to the game.

This trend may continue as Marvel Rivals Season 1 kicks off this month, introducing the Fantastic Four as new playable characters. Their first trailer is set to debut on 6 January, which will further fuel the hype.
