What is PlatinumGames hinting at? Japanese studio announces massive celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Bayonetta series
January 2025 will mark 15 years since the Western release of the famous slasher Bayonetta, which is remembered not only for its dynamic gameplay, excellent visual style and complex combat system, but also for its attractive protagonist - Umbra Witches.
PlatinumGames studio is planning a large-scale celebration of the anniversary and intrigued gamers.
Here's What We Know
In 15 years, we've come a long way with Bayonetta and the adorable characters of the series. Giving joy to so many people with Bayonetta has been a priceless experience.
In the future, we will continue to tackle new challenges to create games that surprise and delight our fans. We look forward to your continued support of Bayonetta and PlatinumGames!
What the Japanese developers mean by this is still unknown. One could assume that the studio is going to announce a new part of Bayonetta, but several factors speak against it:
- Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya left the studio in 2023, without whom it's hard to imagine a continuation of the series.
- Not much time has passed since the release of Bayonetta 3 and the unusual spin-off Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, and the studio is hardly ready to announce a new game.
- The Bayonetta games have enjoyed cult status, but their sales have always been modest for a number of reasons, so releasing another game will require PlatinumGames to find a serious sponsor - last time it was Nintendo.
It is possible that PlatinumGames will finally port Bayonetta 2 or 3 to PC, as gamers have been asking for a long time.
So far, the studio has only released themed wallpapers for smartphones and a music box.
