Ubisoft has expressed its concern over the recent allegations of mental and physical abuse of employees at the Indonesian studio Brandoville by management. This studio supported Ubisoft in the development of the upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows game, but closed in August last year, after which reports of abuse began to emerge.

Here's What We Know

"We are deeply concerned about the recent reports around Brandoville Studios," a representative of Ubisoft said in an interview with Eurogamer. "We strongly condemn all forms of violence, and our thoughts are with the affected employees."

As a reminder, the People Make Games report detailed allegations of abuse by Kwan Cherry Lai, who managed the day-to-day operations of the Brandoville studio.

According to some reports, from 2019 until the studio's closure in 2024, Lai forced employees to write lines like they would in school and demanded that a video be recorded of one of the employees slapping her face a hundred times as punishment.

Other testimonies point to the control of employees' finances and the overworking of a pregnant employee whose son died after four months in intensive care.
