French Exocet Block 3 anti-ship missiles were integrated into the ship's weapon control system. The upgrade was carried out with the participation of Chilean Navy personnel and specialists from ASMAR and MBDA France.

The Capitán Prat frigate is a representative of the Australian Adelaide (Oliver Hazard Perry) subtype, built in 1989. In 2020, along with the Almirante Latorre, it was transferred to the Chilean Navy after being decommissioned in Australia.

The Exocet MM40 Block 3 anti-ship missile can engage surface targets at a range of up to 200 km. The missile is effective in all weather conditions thanks to its active radar homing head. It weighs 780 kg, is 6 m long, has a diameter of 350 mm and a high subsonic speed, making it a key component of the Chilean Navy's modern armament.
