Google seems to be planning to replace the Google Assistant on the Galaxy Watch with a new voice assistant, Gemini, which will be powered by GenAI technology.

Here's What We Know

According to information received from Android Authority, the latest beta version of Google's Android app (version 16.0.5) has revealed a code indicating that Assistant will be replaced by Gemini on Wear OS. It is expected that the new assistant will work with activation via the phrase "Gemini". What's particularly interesting is that the code mentions a "talk back and forth" feature, which could mean the ability to have a natural, continuous conversation with the assistant, similar to communication with real people.

This step is aimed at improving the user experience of smartwatches, as they have a limited screen and number of buttons, which makes them difficult to use.

Currently, Google Assistant is the main voice assistant on Samsung watches, performing various tasks from setting alarms to sending messages.

An animation showing how Gemini will look like on a smartwatch has also been revealed. Thanks to the use of GenAI, Gemini is likely to be able to perform more tasks than Google Assistant, making Galaxy Watch even more convenient to use. However, there is currently no exact information about the additional features that the new assistant will provide and when exactly Google will release the update.

This was expected, as the company has been actively working on integrating Gemini into various platforms since its launch.
