Mazda unveiled today, 10 January, at the Brussels Motor Show the all-new Mazda6e EV. The Japanese carmaker has not yet named the price, but revealed the characteristics of two versions of the model in the European specification and announced the beginning of sales of the novelty for the summer of 2025.

Here's What We Know

The new Mazda6 is no longer a sedan, not a station wagon and does not even have internal combustion engines. At least in Europe. The Mazda6e unveiled in Brussels is a five-door hatchback with a coupe silhouette.

The Mazda6e represents the next evolution of Mazda's design philosophy, "Kodo: Soul of Motion". Distinctive design details of the car include a wide light signature around the decorative element at the front of the car (what is the grille on the DIC cars), frameless doors and hidden handles. At the rear, there is also a wide light strip, but Mazda's characteristic "cylinder" taillights have been retained.

Interior and equipment

The Mazda6e's interior is inspired by the Japanese 'ma' concept, which emphasises simplicity and open space. In its press release, Mazda mentions "generous legroom" for front and rear passengers, as well as natural light thanks to a panoramic sunroof.

The cabin is driver-centric, with a customisable 14.6-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 50-inch augmented reality display that projects key information such as navigation and speed into the driver's field of vision. There's support for voice commands and gesture control.

The Mazda6e will be available in two trim levels. The Takumi features a faux leather interior in Warm Beige or Black, while the Takumi Plus offers premium Tan Nappa and Suede leather and an electrically blackout roof. Also available for the hatchback is a SonyPRO audio system with 14 speakers.

Nine airbags are included, as well as a driver assistance system with autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, and traffic sign recognition.

Features

The Mazda6e offers two powertrain configurations. Both are rear-wheel drive and with 320 N-m of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes "less than 8 seconds" and the top speed is limited at 175 km/h.

The base version is equipped with a 68.8 kWh battery pack, providing a range of up to 479 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. With 200 kW DC charging, the battery charges from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 22 minutes, and the range can be increased by 235 km in 15 minutes. The power output of the electric motor is 190 kW (258 hp).

The second version is the Mazda6e Long Range with an 80 kWh battery and a range of up to 552 kilometres according to WLTP. The electric motor here develops up to 180 kW (245 hp).
