Rumour: Disney is working on the next live-action film in the Lion King universe

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Disney is developing a new live-action spin-off of The Lion King, which is already in active development.

Here's What We Know

Although plot details have not been revealed yet, it remains unknown whether the film will focus on the adventures of Simba or Mufasa.

In addition, actor Billy Eichner, who voices Timon, said that he and Seth Rogen are ready to work on a project about Timon and Pumba. He expressed the idea of creating a comedy film in the style of a road trip, where the characters will meet new heroes and return to classic characters. However, it is also unknown whether Disney will make the next film about this.

The Lion King live-action is a $2 billion franchise. The first film was released in 2019 and was directed by Jon Favreau and grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide.

In 2024, a prequel to The Lion King called Mufasa was released: The Lion King. The film is currently still in theatres and has grossed $540 million.
