GOG joins European Federation of Game Archives and Museums to preserve gaming heritage
GOG, Europe's leading digital game distribution platform, has announced that it has joined the European Federation of Game Archives, Museums and Preservation Projects (EFGAMP). It is the largest organisation in Europe dedicated to the preservation of video games as cultural heritage.
Here's What We Know
EFGAMP was founded in 2012 and represents more than 20 institutions, including national libraries and museums, that collect and preserve digital games. Among its members are well-known organisations such as VIGAMUS in Rome, MO5.COM in France and the Computer Museum in Berlin.
"We created GOG with the aim of preserving video games," said Maciej Gołębiewski, CEO of GOG. "Classic games and the mission to protect them for future generations have always been at the heart of our work." Launched in 2024, GOG's preservation programme provides compatibility for more than 100 classic titles and has received positive feedback from players.
The preservation of video games is becoming an increasingly relevant topic, as we already have plenty of stories of interesting games leaving digital stores for various reasons and no longer being played.
