Apple has removed TikTok and other apps from the App Store in the US under the new law

Amid the TikTok shutdown, Apple has released a statement and support document listing all affected apps unavailable in the US. Usually, the iPhone maker does not publish information about app blocking, but this time it announced that it is removing apps by developer ByteDance from its App Store due to the relevant law that came into effect.
Here's What We Know
Under the Protecting Americans from Apps Controlled by Foreign Adversaries Act, apps developed by ByteDance Ltd. and its subsidiaries, including TikTok, CapCut, Lemon8 and others, will no longer be available for download or updates on the App Store for users in the US from 19 January 2025. In a support document, Apple noted that the company is following the law by blocking all of developer ByteDance's apps, which are listed below:
- TikTok
- TikTok Studio
- TikTok Shop Seller Centre
- CapCut
- Lemon8
- Hypic
- Lark - Team Collaboration
- Lark - Rooms Display
- Lark Rooms Controller
- Gauth: AI Study Companion
- MARVEL SNAP
The document also emphasises that people visiting the US and setting the App Store as non-US will not be able to update the app or purchase in-app items for those apps. TikTok and other ByteDance apps are banned as a result of a bill passed last year that requires the company to sell the short video app or face a ban.
The US Supreme Court upheld the law last week, rejecting an appeal from the owners of the popular app, leading Apple and Google to block the app on 19 January.
