Germany has deployed two batteries of the Patriot air defence system in Poland to strengthen NATO's air defence and protect the logistics centre that supplies materials to Ukraine. The Bundeswehr reported this on its official Facebook page.

Here's What We Know

The two batteries were transferred from the 21st Air Defense Missile Group of the German Air Force, based in Zanic. Along with the systems, 200 military personnel arrived in Poland to operate and protect them.

The Patriot PAC-3 systems, equipped with MIM-104F missiles, are capable of countering ballistic and cruise missiles and will be deployed for six months, in particular to protect important logistics routes in southeastern Poland.

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said that the goal is to protect the logistics hub, which is key to supplying Ukraine with the necessary materials, vehicles, weapons and ammunition.

This is not the first time that German anti-aircraft systems have been deployed in Poland: in 2023, they protected facilities near the city of Zamość, through which cargo was delivered to Ukraine. Similar actions were taken by Norway, which in December 2024 deployed the NASAMS system at Rzeszów-Jasienka Airport along with F-35 fighter jets and 100 military personnel.
